Transforming a Family Basement into an Adult Lounge
The Vision
My clients sought to transition an underutilized basement playroom into a sophisticated, adult-focused bar and game room. The primary objective was to create a warm, bohemian-inspired space for entertaining without the disruption or cost of a full-scale renovation.
The Strategy
To achieve a high-end feel while maintaining budget efficiency, I focused on high-impact, small changes.

Natural Fiber Lights: Replaced standard fixtures with warm, ambient lighting to pivot the room’s function from a daytime play area to an evening lounge

Textural Depth: Installed botanical-inspired, deep-toned wallpaper to anchor the space and establish a cozy, intimate environment.

Custom Reimagining: Reupholstered the existing pool table to complement the new color palette, turning a pre-owned item into the room's central design feature.

Inspiration: The Bungalow Kitchen
Inspired by the game room at The Bungalow Kitchen, I deconstructed their use of bold patterned prints paired with natural rattan and deep, saturated tones to capture that same sophisticated, moody aesthetic. My design approach acts as a curated edit while honoring the original architecture.
Curated Mood Board
To establish a clear aesthetic direction, I developed a conceptual mood board featuring a curated selection of fixtures and furnishings. These pieces serve as a guide to the room’s intended character—balancing bold patterns with natural textures—and represent the design language that will inform final product sourcing.
